Sayin' Somethin' New

So The Roots have just released their ninth album, How I Got Over, which is quite great. This week, check out one of their brand new tracks mashed up with a few of my old favorites from
?uestlove and legendary crew, and enjoy their ever-inquisitive, uber-creative, impeccably cool take on life. This stuff is delicious, especially if you think you're 'not really into hip hop'.

* parental advisory, strong lyrics here. sorry, kids :) *

Playlist
1- now or never (how i got over, 2010)
2- guns are drawn (the tipping point, 2004)
3- ain't sayin' nothin' new (things fall apart, 1999)
4- step into the realm (things fall apart, 1999)
5- water (phrenology, 2002)

You may have heard that the first World Cup ever hosted in Africa will kick off next week. Here, in preparation, a few tunes from the vast continent of a billion people, over a thousand languages, and just a little bit of great music. Hope you find some surprising new favorites.

2- tinariwen - aldhechen manin (touareg music from the southern sahara, 2004)
awesome, bluesy, un-categorizable funk from a band that has been telling desert stories via libya, mali, and algeria for decades. check them out live in chicago on june 19th!
3- gangwe mobb - asali wa moyo (tanzania, 2002)
award-winning tanzanian hip hop called "cartoon rap"

a fun one from the world superstar still doing his thing
