Velocity, or Something About Flowers

It's been a long time, as usual..
And it's been a crazy, crazy year. What with - well, everything - I got some great advice from my sister for this podcast: "just put together some nice music that makes people happy and call it something about flowers". :)

So here you go, friends. I really love this one and hope you do too. Let me know your comments or requests for next time!

Here's the link to download. It expires soon, so get it now, listen to it whenever.

Playlist
1- asa - jailer
this nigerian singer is fast becoming everyone's favorite new discovery. she's fresh, cool, and has a great positive message. she's won awards in france and africa already, and i happened to hear this one while in the middle east. check out http://www.asa-official.com/ for more..
2- vampire weekend - ottoman
this is the band that all the cool college kids love (even those who are in fact many years out of college :)). a fun, warm tune even in cold city weather.
3- captain - keep an open mind
another one i picked up in my travels, this uk pop band is super popular at home. cool video, too - check it out: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=i7rQs9eNuJU
4- the smiths - there is a light that never goes out
for some reason i have been listening to tons of old smiths songs in the last two months, and i had to stop myself from piling them all into this podcast. if you've forgotten about this amazing, seminal band, get the new cd set 'the sound of the smiths' and immerse yourself. having inspired pretty much all of my favorite current bands, they brought a quirky, prescient brillance to pop music.
5- hot chip - the warning
cool, dancey electronica with hilariously weird lyrics. i would be playing this one all over the radio.
6- MGMT - electric feel
a great band - trendy and slick, but still uniquely creative. this song has been a dancey staple for many months now.
7- estelle - come over
everyone knows 'american boy', but not everyone knows the awesomeness of estelle's whole album, a soulful mix of everything from hip-hop to slow jams and dancehall. and how adorable is she?
8- the smiths - girl afraid
another of my many favorites. happy to share the full list if interested!!
9- kings of leon - fans
i love the richness and the buildup of this song. great for driving in the rain, and/or singing along with a cover band in ireland.
10- athlete - tourist
another brit band. their new album, 'beyond the neighbourhood' is quite nice. and they know how to spell 'neighbourhood' correctly.
11- kris shred - wonderful life
a cover of the lost 80's tune by Black. (apparently it was big in germany? :))
in any case.. this song really means a lot to me.
12- bloc party - signs
they're probably not very good at a lot of other things, but bloc party is great at making this kind of music. really like their new album, 'intimacy'.

Playlist
1- coldplay - viva la vida
i try to avoid too much mainstream, but this is just a beautiful anthem. i'm really addicted to it right now.
2- adele - chasing pavements
adele has a gorgeous voice, and her album is creative and lovely. the lyrics are so, so true here too!
3- atmosphere - sunshine
classic atmosphere - groovy beats and almost-too-introspective lyrics. a great one for summer, in case you didn't guess that already.
4- vampire weekend - the kids don't stand a chance
i'm really grateful for this fantastic recommendation. this band is so creative and catchy; get the whole album already!
5- the hoosiers - everything goes dark
i love this britpop band, and this song is just really pretty.
6- kris shred - wasn't you (live acoustic)
another great recommendation. this is the kind of sweet, simple acoustic music that i would write if i were a songwriter. check out this yet-undiscovered german cutie at
http://www.youtube.com/user/KrisShred.
7- jose gonzalez - heartbeats
soft and pretty, a lovely tune for napping in the grass at the park
